Arhar dal vadas

My MIL makes amazing dal vadas using chana dal and my mother makes excellent moong dal vadas 😆 Since I am out of chana dal and wanted to save #moongdal, I made these vadas using arhar dal and they turned out great.
Chana dal vadas is quite famous here in #hyderabad as #masalavadas.

Sharing the written recipe below. Also Rahyl helped me in making these vadas (check glimpses in the video).

Ingredients:

1/2 cup arhar dal
3 garlic cloves
1 medium finely chopped onions
2 tbsp chopped coriander leaves
1 tsp eera
Green chillies to taste
Salt to taste
1 tsp turmeric powder
1 or 2 tbsp sessicated coconut powder or fresh grated coconut (optional)

Method:

Wash and soak arhar dal in enough water for 2 to 3 hours. Once soaked well, drain out all the water and grind it in a mixer grinder along with garlic and green chillies.

Do not add any water while grinding the dal. The paste will be coarse and not smooth.

Take out the paste in a mixing bowl. Add chopped onions, coriander leaves, jeera, salt and turmeric powder. Mix well, made vadas or small pakoras and deep fry in oil. Keep the flame low while frying so inside gets cooked well. Serve it along with any chutney of your choice and a cup of tea😉

Notes:

Add salt and onions jusr before frying as they leave water.

You can add little sooji or rice flour if the mixture becomes loose.

DM or tag me if you try these out.
