Malai Paneer Tikka

Malai paneer tikka, one of the most loved starters. This can be easily prepared at home without any oven or tandoor and is absolutely kids friendly.

One can do the preparation well ahead of time and just make them before mealtime. Malai paneer tikka is very easy to make at home with some basic and easily available ingredients.

An important thing to remember before making these tikkas is that only hung curd can be used for this recipe. Put some curd in a cloth and hang it for sometime. All the water will be drained and you will be left with thick (hung) curd. Now use this curd to make these delicious malai paneer tikka.

My son ate the same tikkas, however, I took out a portion for him before adding pepper powder because he can’t tolerate the heat of black pepper.

Cashew paste has been used in this recipe which gives an amazing taste and also helps in making the marinade thick. Don’t use any water to make cashew paste. Incase you are unable to make a fine paste, add cream or curd to it while blending.

I have used skewers to grill them on direct flame, you can pan roast them in a non stick pan using a few drops of oil if skewers are not available. Or, if you have a grill stand, you can put the paneer and veggies on it and grill it on direct flame.

I use my microwave oven’s grill stand on my gas stove top to grill everything and it works amazingly well.

I have used red and yellow bell peppers which is optional. You can only use green capsicum and onion (tomatoes can also be used)

Let’s check out the recipe now.

INGREDIENTS:

200gms paneer
1 medium onion, cubes
1 small piece each of green, red and yellow bell pepper

For marination:
1/3 cup hung curd
1 handful of cashews
2 to 3 tbsp of cream (thick cream from boiled milk)
10 big garlic cloves
salt to taste
pepper powder to taste

METHOD:

Soak cashews in hot water for 30 mins or more.
Blend cashews and garlic together in a mixer jar.

Next, take hung curd, cashew paste, cream in a big mixing bowl and mix well. Add salt and pepper, mix. Next add paneer cubes, mix, then add capsicums and onions. Gently mix everything. Cover and refrigerate for a few hours or overnight.

Next, arrange paneer and veggies in a skewer. Roast them on direct gas flame till sides turn black and serve along with onions and green chutney.
